The YEC is honored to reward several scholarships to attend the Piping Hot Summer Drummer (PHSD) workshop in Canada. As we are dedicated to bring piping and drumming opportunities to the youth, this scholarship is aimed towards providing world class instruction to deserving youth pipers and drummers.

Learn from; Jack Lee, Reid Maxwell, Stuart Liddell, Steven McWhirter, Callum Beaumont, and other world-class instructors for an amazing week of inspired instruction!

2023 Application Process
Age Requirement: Applicants must be 19 years of age or younger.
Membership:
Active solo member of the WUSPBA, or
Member of a WUSPBA-registered band in good standing.
Note: "Good standing" indicates compliance with bylaws, including payment of dues.
Identification: WUSPBA solo number or active membership in a WUSPBA band required.
Guardian Consent: Guardian information is required unless the applicant is an emancipated minor.
Passport: Must possess a valid passport by the time of PHSD or be capable of obtaining one promptly.
Competition History: Solo competition results from the past year (if applicable). Applicant will list of solo competition placings from the previous year, including details like competition names, grades, CPL, and judges.
Letter of Recommendation:
From a mentor, highlighting the applicant's musical achievements.
Include mentor's contact information for verification purposes.
Mini Essays: Three mini-essays responding to prompts provided:
Mandatory Prompt: "How will this scholarship affect you?"
Optional Prompts (Choose 2):
Your passion for music and its impact on your life.
Musical accomplishments and preparation for further study.
A challenging musical experience and your response.
Collaboration experiences in music and their influence.
Future musical goals and how the scholarship supports them.
Reflection on music's impact on personal growth and identity.
Length: 250-500 words per essay.
Integrity Requirement: Essays must be the applicant's original work without external or AI assistance.
How to Submit Applications: Through the Google Form link on the WUSPBA's YEC website (see below at "Apply Now!").
Post-Award Requirement: A thank-you email to the YEC along with summary of the applicant's PHSD experience. A picture of the applicant at PHSD is also required. Applicant must submit their post-award communication to yec@wuspba.org before July 19th.
Review Process: A committee composed of the co-chairs, vice-chair, and advisors of the YEC.
Scholarship Funds Disbursement: Handled by the WUSPBA treasurer via transfer from the WUSPBA bank account to PHSD on behalf of successful applicants.
